The inaugural Summer Institute on Resource Governance was a two-week event for leaders and decision-makers in the extractive industry. With CIRDI, we combined practical knowledge and valuable networking for participants trying to strengthen governance of the extractive sectors in their home countries.
The event brought together participants from 15 countries and turned cultural differences and geographic divides into learning opportunities. We designed content that added direct value to all members. That meant multi-stakeholder roundtables, discussions, and focus on current challenges in the industry with unique “studio” sessions. These sessions mixed hands-on design with participant collaboration in a simulation to solve real-world challenges.
“Steve brought his considerable experience in facilitation to the CIRDI Summer Institute. Steve’s value-add in this particular circumstance was his experience with the context of resource management and his thoughtful way of approaching the “studio sessions” to help integrate the day’s learning for the participants.”
— Moura Quayle, Director Liu Institute for Global Issues
Collaborating with the Summer Institute for Future Legislators and the International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Minerals Industry during the event added unique significance. Both conferences complemented the content we designed for the Summer Institute on Resource Governance, and made the experience memorable and useful.
